Finley is a friendly town found on the western edge of the Red River Valley, and like most small towns in North Dakota, it is primarily an agricultural based community. Finley has two highways (200 and 32) which intersect in town. Two Interstate Highways are located nearby: (I-94) 40 miles south and (I-29) 40 miles east. Finley's existence is a result of the completion of the railroad through Steele County. Finley began as two separate towns that were settled on both sides of the track. Gilbert was once located on the east side and Walker on the west of the tracks. Both these towns were settled in 1896. In 1903 the two towns became Finley and were incorporated as a village and in 1926 they became incorporated as a city. Finley is currently the County Seat of Steele County.
People, Pride and Progress is what Finley is all about.
